Conference Centre 'Evoluon' Eindhoven | The Netherlands (1996)
The Evoluon was a flagship for technological innovations by the Eindhoven-based company Philips. This makes the discus-shaped building, which is often compared to a flying saucer, part of Eindhoven's industrial heritage. In 1996, the 'Day of Architecture' was dedicated to the 'Year of Industrial Heritage'. For that occasion, we developed a lighting installation for this building that emphasizes the futuristic character of the building; the flying saucer comes to life through 'running' lighting in the windows of the roof dome and a moving beam of light through the central skylight that connects to the universe. Finally, the building really seems to float through the glow of light onto the underside of the saucer, which varies in intensity.
