Station Lelylaan was completed in 1986 and serves as a prime example of an elevated station. The station has garnered a poor reputation in terms of social safety, quality of stay, and orientation. Hence, a competition was held for the northern side of the underpass with the goal of improving the sense of safety and the quality of stay. With our winning design, we playfully address the issues in the area by using the visual language of a pinball machine that occasionally goes into “tilt” mode. The installation of this lighting not only enhances the feeling of safety but also adds a playful character to the area.
